In the struggle to spread unfettered capitalism around the world, peace makes little sense. Conflict, confusion, disaster and suffering are necessary to push forward deeply undemocratic policies and to accumulate corporate wealth. These free markets lead to increasing inequality, but as long as capitalist greed is equated with freedom and democracy, an unsuspecting public will back ever harsher tactics at home and abroad. The absurdity of the idea that democracy can be achieved through military violence and corporate coercion seems to elude the patriotic and jingoistic hordes back home.
